Maxwell Road

Maxwell Road (also known as the Sawmill Mountain Motorway) is a mountain road, parallel to Pine Canyon Road starting at Lake Hughes, with views of the high Mojave Desert to the north (including the startling spring poppy display) and the still snow-covered Los Padres to the east. We rode along it for a while (afternoon of 2008:04:13), taking pictures, and then drove down to the poppies to take a few pictures there as well.

These next pictures were taken at the poppy reserve. Besides the poppies, this picture is trying to show how we transported the bikes in those days. Wow, those were early days. Later we had a much better system using front wheel chocks plus John’s ingenious turnbuckles holding the bikes down by their footpegs.
