These photos, from a ride of 2013:07:28, were a happy accident. We set John’s GoPro incorrectly, so that instead of making a movie, it was (unbeknownst to either of us) taking snapshots, approximately one every ten seconds. The photos are sort of terrible — there’s a nasty fisheye effect, the color isn’t very true, and the view is obscured by dust on the camera cover — but they also provide a unique record of what these roads are like and why these areas are so much fun to visit, because the camera is snapping away all the time, in places where you would never deliberately stop and take a picture. Thus they show views that are thrilling and highly characteristic, and which we would never have recorded in any other way!
I’ve selected some of the best of the resulting photos. The route starts at the campground on Camuesa (over the ridge from Upper Oso), comes along west to the ridge, then starts up Buckhorn, then turns around and comes back down Buckhorn and so down to Upper Oso.
