Ithaca, NY, 1987-1989

In the autumn of 1987 I moved (back) to Ithaca, NY. These photos include more close-ups of flowers and grasses. And it was interesting trying to capture some of the flavor and feeling of Ithaca’s seasons: the dramatic colors and low light of autumn, the stark monochromes of the seemingly endless winter, and the startling splashes of spring color.

In addition to the successive unrolling of the seasons, this set shows some of my favorite photo subjects: water over rock (inevitable in Ithaca); weird fungi in the woods; leaves and flowers and berries and grasses; and occasionally, collections of items such as unappetizing pies at a county fair or gourds at a farmers market.
